About This Crochet Pattern
This dress is constructed seamlessly from the top down. You’ll start with a round yoke worked in joined rounds of single crochet (sc), which creates that smooth, structured bodice you see in the photos. The flutter sleeve ruffles get added to the armhole openings after the body is separated. A defined waistband of half double crochet (hdc) worked in the back loop only gives you that subtle ridge texture separating the bodice from the skirt.

Option 3: Drops Safran (50 percent cotton, 50 percent viscose, 175 yards / 160 m per 50 g skein). Adds a slight sheen that enhances the lace pattern beautifully. Purchase 4 skeins for size 3T.
Substitution note: Use any DK weight yarn that achieves gauge. Cotton or cotton-blend fibers are strongly recommended because they hold lace structure without droop. Avoid super-stretchy fibers such as bamboo-heavy blends, which will cause the skirt to elongate significantly after wearing.
Gauge
20 sc x 24 rows = 4 in / 10 cm worked in single crochet, blocked.
One pineapple lace repeat (12 stitches wide) = approximately 2 in / 5 cm wide and 3 in / 7.5 cm tall over 8 rounds, blocked.
Gauge is mandatory for a well-fitting garment. Please take time to make a swatch and adjust your hook size as needed. This step really does matter for clothing.

Pineapple Shell (Psh)
Work 7 double crochet into the designated chain space or stitch. This creates the fan-shaped pineapple base. It’s like making a regular shell, just with 7 dc instead of the typical 5.
Pineapple Decrease Cluster (Pdc)
This stitch joins two dc from the same shell into one stitch, narrowing the pineapple as it grows.
Step 1: Yo, insert hook into next dc of pineapple, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook).
Step 2: Yo, insert hook into next dc of same pineapple, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook).
Step 3: Yo, pull through all 3 loops.
Work Pdc across pairs of dc on successive rounds to shape the pineapple from wide base to pointed tip.
Scallop Edging
Sl st into first stitch, ch 1. (Sk 1 st, 5 dc into next st, sk 1 st, sl st into next st) rep to end of round or row. Each scallop consumes 4 stitches, so your stitch count must be a multiple of 4.
Pattern Notes
The dress is constructed top-down in the following order: neckline foundation, round yoke with raglan-style increases, separation of sleeves from body, bodice continuation, waistband, pineapple lace skirt, scallop hem, flutter sleeves added, back keyhole closure, embellishments.
All rounds are joined with a slip stitch to the first stitch of the round and begun with a standing chain unless otherwise noted. Do not turn at the end of rounds unless specifically instructed.

Size adjustments for 2T, 4T, and 5 appear in parentheses throughout as follows: (2T, 3T, 4T, 5). When only one number appears, it applies to all sizes.
Step by Step Instructions
Section 1: Neckline
Ch 68 (68, 72, 76). Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist.

This forms the neckline band. It should measure approximately 1 in / 2.5 cm tall and 13.5 in / 34 cm in circumference for size 3T.
Section 2: Yoke
Place markers to define 4 raglan points dividing the neckline. Here’s the exact marker placement for all sizes:
Size 2T (68 sc): Front 24, Left sleeve 10, Back 24, Right sleeve 10. Markers at sts 24, 34, 58, 68.
Size 3T (68 sc): Front 24, Left sleeve 10, Back 24, Right sleeve 10. Same as 2T.
Size 4T (72 sc): Front 26, Left sleeve 10, Back 26, Right sleeve 10. Markers at sts 26, 36, 62, 72.

Raglan Increase Rounds
Each increase round adds 8 stitches total (2 stitches at each of the 4 raglan points). At each marker, work inc into the st immediately before the marker, move marker up, work inc into the st immediately after the marker.

On the next round, work across front stitches, chain underarm stitches to bridge across the sleeve opening, skip sleeve stitches, work across back stitches, chain the second underarm, skip second sleeve stitches.
Separation Round (all sizes): Sc across front sts, ch 4 (ch 4, ch 5, ch 5), sk left sleeve sts, sc across back sts, ch 4 (ch 4, ch 5, ch 5), sk right sleeve sts, join to first sc.
Stitch counts after separation:
The sleeve stitches (22, 22, 24, 24) are set aside on stitch holders or scrap yarn for the flutter ruffle.
Section 4: Bodice
The pineapple lace pattern uses a 12-stitch repeat. Target waist counts must be a multiple of 12:

Section 6: Pineapple Lace Skirt
Now for the fun part. The pineapple lace stitch is worked in a 12-stitch repeat. Each pineapple grows over 8 rounds, starting with a base shell of 7 dc, then narrowing over successive cluster rounds while chains expand around it.
Skirt Rnd 1 (base mesh setup): Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), sk 2, dc into next st, (ch 2, sk 2, dc into next st) rep around, ending ch 2, join to 3rd ch of starting ch-5. (28, 28, 32, 36 mesh units)
Skirt Rnd 2 (pineapple bases): Sl st into first ch-2 sp. Ch 3 (counts as dc). Work 6 more dc into same ch-2 sp (Psh = 7 dc). (Ch 3, sc into next ch-2 sp, ch 3, Psh into next ch-2 sp) rep around, ending ch 3, sc into next ch-2 sp, ch 3, join to top of starting ch-3. (14, 14, 16, 18 pineapple shells)
Skirt Rnd 3 (begin narrowing): Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2). Sc into 2nd dc of first shell, (ch 1, sc into next dc of shell) 5 times. Ch 2, dc into sc between shells. (Ch 2, sc into 2nd dc of next shell, (ch 1, sc into next dc) 5 times, ch 2, dc into sc between shells) rep around. Join to 3rd ch of starting ch-5.
Skirt Rnd 4: Ch 5. Sc into first ch-1 sp of pineapple, (ch 1, sc into next ch-1 sp) 4 times. Ch 2, dc into dc between pineapples. Rep around. Join.
Skirt Rnd 5: Ch 5. Sc into first ch-1 sp, (ch 1, sc into next ch-1 sp) 3 times. Ch 2, dc into dc. Rep around. Join.
Skirt Rnd 6: Ch 5. Sc into first ch-1 sp, (ch 1, sc into next ch-1 sp) 2 times. Ch 2, dc into dc. Rep around. Join.

Section 7: Skirt Closing Mesh and Hem
Skirt Rnd 18 (closing mesh): Ch 3, dc into first ch-2 sp, ch 2, dc into next ch-2 sp, rep around. Join.
Skirt Hem Scallop: Sl st into first ch-2 sp. Ch 1. (5 dc into next ch-2 sp, sc into next ch-2 sp) rep around. Join with sl st to first sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Flutter Sleeves
Rejoin yarn to the held sleeve stitches at the underarm.
Rnd 1: Sc evenly around armhole edge, picking up stitches in the underarm chains and held sleeve stitches. (26, 26, 29, 29 sc approximately)
Rnd 2: Work 2 dc into each sc around. This doubles the stitch count and causes the ruffle to frill outward.
Rnd 3: Work scallop edging across all stitches. Fasten off.
Repeat for second sleeve.
Crochet Rose Embellishment
Ch 36.
Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc across. (35 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Work 2 sc into each sc across. (70 sc)
Row 3: Ch 2, turn. Work 2 hdc into each sc across. (140 hdc)
Fasten off leaving a 12 in / 30 cm tail. Roll the strip tightly from one end, stitching through the base as you roll to secure. The finished rose is approximately 1.25 in / 3 cm in diameter.
Crochet Leaf (make 2)
Ch 10. Sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc into next ch, hdc into next ch, dc into next 2 ch, hdc into next ch, sc into next ch, sl st into last ch. Ch 1, rotate work. Working into the opposite side of the foundation chain: sl st, sc, hdc, dc into next 2 ch, hdc, sc, sl st. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Each leaf is approximately 1 in / 2.5 cm long.
Sew rose and leaves to waistband at desired position.
Back Keyhole and Button Loop
The center back has a small keyhole opening. Work a simple button loop at the top: join yarn at top corner of opening, ch 8, sl st to opposite corner. Sew button to correspond with loop.
Matching Bow Hair Clip (Bonus)
Ch 20.
Row 1: Sc into 2nd ch from hook and across. (19 sc)
Rows 2 to 12: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (19 sc each row)
Fasten off. Pinch center and wrap 8 to 10 times tightly with yarn tail. Secure. Sew or glue to a hair clip.
Finishing
Weave in all remaining ends. Block the dress lightly by pinning it to shape on a blocking mat and spritzing with water. Allow to dry completely. The blocking really opens up the pineapple lace and makes the pattern pop.
Tips for Success with This Pineapple Lace Dress Crochet Tutorial
Count your stitches. I know, I know. But with lace, stitch counts matter. Check at the end of each round, especially during the pineapple sections.
Use stitch markers generously. Mark the beginning of each round and the raglan increase points. You’ll thank yourself later.
Block before photographing or gifting. Unblocked lace looks crumpled and sad. Blocked lace looks like the photo. Trust the process.
Make a gauge swatch. This is a garment. Gauge determines whether it fits. A quick swatch saves hours of frustration.
